It is warned to those who prefer male child over female child, just for the sake of continuace of their family. There is not far off when their son will have to remain unmarried as they would not find brides. Girl child and women in India are the most vulnerable to discrimination and deprivation. The general thinking of parents is they expect sons but not daughters to provide financial and emotional care, especially in their old age, sons add to family wealth and property while daughters droin it through dowries. Son continue the family lineage while daughters are married away to another household. Son perform important Religious roles, and sons defend and exercise the family’s power while daughters have to be defended and protected creating a perceived burden on the household. The advancement of medical technology changed the fate of unborn child and posed threat to its life, particularly to the life of female child in the form of foetus. The papers presented in this book explain the problem of female foeticide in India. This book makes a path breaking contribution in this direction. It shows the major issues which highlight the problem of female foeticide.
