According to Manu Smriti ‘Women is protected by the father in her childhood, by the husband in adulthood and by the son in her old age’. Women are considered as powerless and weaker section of society. The vast majority of women are ‘assetless’ and illiterate. They have faced social, economic and political discrimination. Women’s empowerment is a term widely used now-a-day. Empowerment of women has been recognized as a ‘Central Issues’ in determining the status of women. The Constitution of India itself has provided women a significant position in the socio-economic life of the Nation. To uphold the constitutional mandate, the state has enacted various legislative measures intended to ensure equal right. The five year plans have space for development of the women.
