The present work is an exception to the common style of treatment of marketing geography in an urban environment, more especially, in case of a small town of a backward economy. It has been divided into three sections: The geography of commercial activities, the urban environment and the preodic marketing.The first section includes two chapters, namely, geography of commercial activities and the progress of studies on periodic marketing in India. The second section comprises three chapters on the urban environment itself: A peep in the past – the historical perspective of the town in reference, A panorama of the urban environment on the one hand while the march towards the 2001 – the future perspective of the case in hand on the other. The last section i.e. the periodic marketing consists of four chapters: The Monday marketing, The Friday marketing, The Saturday marketing, and the Summary and Conclusions. The endeavour, thus, attempts to bring out the salient features of marketing geography in an urban environment in a style away from the general stream.
