Rabindranath Tagore was a multitalented personality. He was a Bengali poet, a Brahmo Samaj philosopher, a visual artist, a playwright, a novelist, a painter and a composer, all combined into one. Rabindrnath Tagore started composing art works at a very tender age. He was also a cultural reformer who modified Bengali art by rebuffing the strictures that bound in into classical Indian forms. The publication of the English version of Gitanjali brought laurels in the life of R.N. Tagore. Gitanjali was first published in Nov, 1912. The best literary giants of England like Yeats and Bradley appreciated the sincere effort of Tagore to the utmost. In November 1913, he was awarded the noble prize by Swedish academy and this gave him a place among the greatest men of letters n the modern world. He won universal recognition through the monumental literary achievement Gitanjali. Gitanjali brought to him universal recognition.
