The core of the Nation’s efforts towards tribal development is the philosophy which was envisioned by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Independent India and a great statesman. The essential philosophy of the government’s involvement in the development of tribal communities and its aim happens to be of “integration with the mainstream”. The in-built genius of this approach lies in the awareness of the great statesman Pt. Nehru, of human values and multi-cultural milieu of our tribal communities. His basic premise in the philosophy was to preserve the tribal communities throughout the control and integrate them with the nation’s mainstream, without in anyway interfering or devaluating their rich cultural heritage. This integration has to be done at a pace with which the tribal communities themselves would be comfortable. It took almost 50 years for this respect of cultural plurality to be recognized by the world community. In this context, the book consists of various enlightening articles written by eminent scholars and field practitioners with special reference to Tribal Development and Management. The meticulous material contained in all the articles in this volume will be an outstanding contribution to the movement towards greater understanding of Tribal Development, steering new prospects in analyzing various problems in a practical way of the Indigenous People. This book will be useful to all sections of the society including policy makers and implementers.
