The present book “Text Book of Economic Botany” is an effort to make available authentic and standard study material relate to economic importance of plants. This book has been complied exclusively to accomplish the need of undergraduate and post-graduate students of all Indian Universities. Aspirants for the Civil services and other competitive examinations will surely gain advantage by this book.
This book aims to provide comprehensive account of economically precious plants which are grown in India and elsewhere. Usually the angiospermic plants are highlighted as economically precious, but the special feature of the book is inclusion of lower plants which are treated equally as angiosperms, especially Algae and Bryophytes for their economic potential.
The book is divided into 14 chapters initiated by Introduction and history of economic botany and highlights different uses of plants in subsequent chapters. At the end index and suggested reading are also provided.
Due consideration is also given to Petro Plants and Ornamental Plants, discussed in detail here, however these have been neglected earlier inmost of the books. Some of the genetically modified plants are also included. The description of plants is well supplemented by suitable coloured photographs which will give a complete and striking view with added advantage to the readers in identifying the plants in their natural habitats.
